How much does the race cost?
Individual: $50 for USAT members. Non-members add $7
Relays: $90per team if everyone is a USAT member, $97 if non-members
Kids Race: $12 USAT member, $15 non-member
I can't race because I (got injured/got sick/have to go to Antarctica/etc.) can I get a refund?
No. However, if the race is full as of June 10th, 2002 and there is a waiting list, you can get a refund for your entry fee minus $10.
Is this race suitable for first-timers?
Yes, many people choose this race as their first triathlon because of the short distance, excellent location, and supportive volunteers and race staff.
What is the water temperature?
60-72 is the range. This depends a lot on the weather the week before the race so it is very hard to predict. The bottom line is if you race open water triathlons in Colorado you will be much faster and more comfortable in a wetsuit BUT you will probably survive Cheyenne Mountain without one. On June 1st the water was 66 degrees. We will update the water temp after June 15.
Are wetsuits required?
No, but we highly recommend them. You will be much more comfortable and faster with a wetsuit. If you don't already have a wetsuit, check out Mammoth Multisport (1-877-99-MAMMOTH).
Can I rent a wetsuit?
Not that we know of, although scuba shops might have very uncomfortable ones to rent. You would be much more comfortable in a triathlon-specific wetsuit. See above.
Can my friend pick up my packet on Saturday?
If you are a USA Triathlon (USAT) member and your friend has your membership
card, yes they can get your packet. If you are not a USAT member or if the friend
doesn't have your card, THEN YOU MUST PICK UP YOUR PACKET IN PERSON
Is the course hilly?
The bike is rolling, with no long or super steep climbs. For comparison, it is less hilly than the Monument Triathlon course. The run is on a golf course so there are numerous short rolling hills but no major climbs.

What hotels can I stay at close to the race?
For the ultimate, stay right at the race venue at the Cheyenne Mountain Conference Resort. For a special rate call Melissa at (719)538-4009. How do I get to the race venue?
From I-25 South, take the Tejon/Nevada exit (140B) and take a left at the end of the ramp. Take a right at the 2nd light onto Nevada. Head South on Nevada aproximately 2 miles and exit at Clubhouse Drive (just past Cheyenne Mt. Blvd). At the end of the ramp take a left and follow the directions of the parking attendants.

What is USA Triathlon?
USA Triathlon (USAT) is the National Governing Body for triathlon and duathlon.
USA Triathlon sanctions events, picks national, world and Olympic teams; trains
and hires officials; promotes the sport, etc.
What is meant by "Sanctioned by USA Triathlon?"
The USAT sanctioning process ensures that each event that gets the USAT stamp
of approval is safe, fair, legal, and well-organized. In turn, this allows USAT
athletes to compete in quality events and potentially become a nationally ranked
athlete Are all Tri-America Events sanctioned by USAT? Yes, all events in the
Tri-America series will be sanctioned by USA Triathlon.
Do I need to join USA Triathlon to compete in the event?
No, you do not need to be a USAT member to compete. Non USAT members will be
required to purchase a one-day license at check-in ($7). You can also purchase
a USAT membership at check-in. USAT membership is certainly encouraged because
of the great benefits package each member receives. Please visit www.usatriathlon.org
for more information on USA Triathlon.
I put my USAT number on the registration form. Do I still need to bring my
membership card to check-in?
Yes! Even though we may have your USAT number on file, we still must see proof
of current membership at check-in. Your USAT number does not indicate your membership
status. If you do not bring proof of membership to check-in, you will be required
to purchase a one-day license in order to compete.
What if I lost my card, or recently joined USAT and have not received my
card?
Visit the USA Triathlon website at www.usatriathlon.org for details on how to
obtain a replacement card or temporary proof of membership.
What are the rules for the event?
Go to: http://www.usatriathlon.org/rules.htm#Competitive_Rules
What about the kids race?
The kids swim in the pool. Parents can provide limited assistance in the transition
between events.
